Most of the characters in high positions in the Harry Potter series misused their power. Politics is a highly problematic in this series especially the people in the Ministry of Magic. Most of the ministers misuse their power, for example Dolores Umbridge who abuses students just because she is in the ministry and no one can go against her. Even the Minister of Magic himself is engaged in power politics as he sides with Voldemort thinking him to be the winning party. Power corrupts most people. Every person is hungry for power. In the very first movie itself we see that Quirrell wants power and for this he had Voldemort behind his head. But this want for power corrupts him and he falls into a trap. Even in the aspect of the elves, there is a deeper meaning. Elves are slaves and can be compared to human slavery. They are never really shown in the movies much and they hardly are seen anywhere in the entire territory of Hogwarts. The elves are kept hidden but the readers are aware that it is them who cook and clean everything. This is proper enslavement where the students and teachers (masters) get the fruit which is earned by the elves (slaves). But on the other hand even while freeing them, Hermoine just went on with SPEW without ever asking the opinions of any of the elves. She just figured that they would like to be free. This is another kind of authoritarian aspect. Throughout the book, J.K. Rowling does a fantastic job of portraying how authority plays an enormous role even in the wizarding world.
I really liked the video and god I never looked at the video with this point of view. I think It's a good political breakdown but It's basically everyone against pure-blood Slytherin. The system in the magical world itself is very authoritarian itself. It's hierarchical, hereditary and kids are decided upon which school they go to for the rest of their life because an old hat said so. It's just when Slytherin gets to power that everybody loses their mind. Moreover This theme also continues in Fantastic Beasts where the "good guys" in the Ministry are either too arrogant or too afraid to believe.
I really liked the idea behind the video because it presented a completely different side of Harry Potter, one which I've never imagined before. The part about house elves' freedom is something which I noticed myself as comparing them to real life slaves, they do not have a voice of their own. Even though they work in Hogwarts they are forever tied to their masters with no escape. Another bit about giving adults power is that no matter who is in power, unfair means will forever find their way into the system. Even in situations when Dumbledore casually awards points to Gryffindor it seems rather unfair on his part to do so but no one questions it. I think the Harry Potter universe can be compared to a lot of real life incidents as constructing a story out of reality is something which children's books manage to pull off without any difficulty.
