First strip The first strip shows Calvin and Hobbes walking along just as friends do but it’s surprising to see that the tiger is walking behind Calvin rather when he has to be walking besides him if they are really friends. It could be that they are walking on a narrow path which makes it difficult for Hobbes to walk besides him while holding his hand. Just like the teasing that friends do Calvin is also having fun by pointing out to a tiger. It is surprising to see Hobbes jump when Calvin says there is a tiger because Hobbes is a tiger but i think since Hobbes is an extraordinary character, he is different than the other tigers and he knows that his species can be dangerous because that is how they are portrayed and living with a human he has got that image stuck to his head where his thoughts are limited. The third picture does not have a frame which gives an idea about how the space is not restricted. They both seem happy and it can mean that happiness has no limit. The fourth picture shows the exact reaction a friend would give to another friend if they surprise the other with something they know are terrified about but however this is taken lightly because both of them agree it is just for fun. There is nothing much to look deeper into considering that both of them are friends and friendship is all about getting along with someone who you vibe with and i don’t think either of them want to destroy what they have considering both of them are totally different yet keeps their differences apart.
The second strip When Calvin asks Hobbes what he’d want if he could wish for anything, Hobbes says a big sunny field, this answer shows that Hobbes wants to be free. Humans have always restricted animals for their own greed. The third one does not have a border and with what Calvin is saying it shows that the things humans desire has no limit. Realisation hits Calvin when Hobbes is happy with what he has because what more is there to say to someone who is genuinely happy with the little things they have and do not take things for granted and especially for animals with their environment and everything getting destroyed by us, every little thing matters to them.
